Encompassing an impressive grounds including ponds, waterworks and pavilions the National Palace Museum is located in the capital of Taiwan, Taipei and the newer Southern branch is located at Taibao, Taiwan. NPM includes a permanent collection of nearly 700,000 pieces of ancient Chinese imperial artifacts and artworks, making it one of the largest of its type in the world.
The collection encompasses 8,000 years of history of Chinese art from the Neolithic age to the modern. Most of the collection are high quality pieces collected by China’s emperors. With a collection of this size, only 1% of the collection is exhibited at a given time. The rest of the collection is stored in temperature controlled vaults. Permanent exhibitions of painting and calligraphy are rotated once every three months. Approximately 3,000 pieces of the museum’s collection can be viewed at a given time. Allowing visitors to return time and again to enjoy varied collections of these priceless treasures.
